Borovets is the largest and most established ski resort in Bulgaria. with a history that dates back to 1896. Borovets was originally established at the end of the 19th Century as a hunting place for the Bulgarian Kings!

The ski resort of Borovets is situated in the Province of Sofia. It is on the northern slopes of the Rila mountains. at an altitude of 1350 m. Borovets is 10 km from Samokov, 73 km from Sofia and 125 km from Plovdiv.

Over the years money invested in the Borovets ski  resort has helped to improve on its facilities. It can boast a diverse range of activities including cross country skiing, ski doos snowboarding, night skiing  and all usual activities that would be found in other European ski resorts.
Surrounded by thick forests, you could be even forgiven for thinking you were in the Alps.

The pistes which cover about 60kms offer runs of varied difficulty for all levels and in particular  a number of good long red runs There are 3 main areas the best perhaps is the Yastrebets area where all the main competitions take place.

The gondola and lift systems ensure queues are minimal and snow guns number nearly 180 and cover about 60% of the pistes.

Night skiing is until 9pm

Ski season is from December until April

The ski resort has twice hosted World Cup Alpine Skiing rounds(1981 and 1984), while the Biathlon track is one of the best in the world.
